This Venetian era Olive mill was totally renovated by the present owner in 1999 to 2001 with works involving stabilizing the original structure, construction of the rear ground floor terrace; construction of a reinforced concrete ring beam at eaves level; lining the original stone walls with pneumatically sprayed reinforced concrete; construction of new roof; replacement of the timber mezzanine floor; internal partitioning; plumbing and electrical installations; internal and external rendering; 2nd fix joinery (kitchen and wardrobes) and finally decorations.
The area of the Hotel is 236 m2 on a plot of 695 m2.
The arrangement is as follows:
Ground floor
The Residence is accessed from the ground floor, where one enters a large open plan living area containing two of the original stone arches.
A work area with Wi-Fi, shower room, TV and utility room complete with washing machine and tumble drier. This area also displays one of the three original metal “cork screw” olive presses standing like a sculpture, in which the olive “mulch” or paste, was placed in rope sacks for “cold” pressing.
A small flight of tiled steps leads down to a spacious Dining area and Kitchen. The dining area and Kitchen are clustered around the original “four stone” mill rollers which form the central feature of this area and look and operate much as they did many years ago. The farmhouse kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker and “American –style” fridge/freezer with integral water and ice dispenser.
A hallway leads to two bedrooms one on the left and the other on the right. Both bedrooms which feature the original Venetian arches have three single beds, and each room has its own en-suite Bathroom. The ground floor hallway leads out to a vine covered Pergola for outside dining with a superb wood or charcoal BBQ and food preparation area. Mezzanine floor: Timber steps lead from the ground floor living area to the Mezzanine floor which consists of two additional bedrooms, one twin and one double, each with en-suite bathrooms. The double bedroom has its own good sized balcony with stunning views over the olive groves to the sea beyond.
Garden and swimming pool
On the north side of the mill the pergola covered terrace leads to a beautiful garden. The garden has a well maintained lawn with trees and flowers, with its own automatic irrigation system. Stone stairs lead down from the garden to the swimming pool. The 9.5m x 5.0m pool has a tiled deck and overlooks the olive groves and sea. There is a small paddling area for infants. Metal steps lead down from the pool deck to an outside furniture store room and herb garden.
It has heating with hot water radiators and solar water heater. It is assigned EOT License to accommodate 10 persons.
It is located 15 min drive out of Kolymbari which provides a bank, post office, pharmacy, supermarkets restaurants and Taverns the latter offering fresh fish and authentic Cretan dishes. Chania is at 28 km and the Airport at 52km.
