About the Area:

Varypetro is located in the Municipality of Theriso at an altitude of approximately 95 meters. Historically, the wider area was a feudal estate belonging to the well-known feudal lord Marios-Petros, from whom the village takes its name. In 1938, it was officially named Varypetro, a name it retains today.

Archaeological excavations have taken place in the southeastern rocky areas of the village, particularly in the area of Kastella, where a Venetian fortress still stands. Excavations at the site known as Dembla uncovered remains of a prehistoric settlement, indicating that the area has been inhabited since ancient times
